Exterminator (demo) (source) (documentation) - Exterminator is a simple console-based animated demonstration of A* pathfinding in a tiled environment coded in C++ using Visual Studio.  The playing area is animated by scrolling text, and all on-screen objects are represented by different characters.  The graphics are simplistic, but it’s a good demonstration of pathfinding, polymorphism, code structuring and good documentation. 

Puyo (source and executable jar) (javadoc) – Puyo is a 2D falling piece puzzle game created in Java.  It is also a good example of object oriented programming and good documentation.   The game itself is easy to play, spin the pair of Puyos and move them around to make same-colored groups in order to eliminate them from the board.  The game will end if the stack of Puyos reaches the top of the screen.

Sludge Crawler – A 2D Sidescroller

Game Summary:  Sludge Crawler was a group effort created for a game programming class and 1st-place winner of the First Annual Game Programming Contest at the University of Stony Brook. Sludge Crawler is a 2D action sidescroller made in DirectX. The hero, Sludge Crawler, is a sentient clump of bacterial matter that battles through such dangerous levels as the Whale Volcano, the Inside of a Computer, and Swordopolis. He gains powerups by jumping into various "Play-Doh-esque" molds that reshape his body. The playable version that won the contest can be found here.

 

 


Insurrection 1776 - A Battlefield Vietnam Mod

Game Summary: Insurrection 1776 is a mod for Battlefield Vietnam based on 18th-century combat, focusing on the American Revolutionary War. I came up with the idea for it and put together a team of volunteers to help create it.  It is unique in that, since the only weapons are muzzle-loading flintlocks and melee weapons, a player must take more time and make their shots count or prepare for melee combat. "Spray-and-pray" is no longer a tactic. The game also features various different cannons and other era weaponry, fort sieges, naval combat, line battles, and horses. Insurrection 1776 has been featured in a few gaming magazines since its first Alpha release on July 4, 2004 and even got space on the cover of PC Action Magazine.

 

 

Necrocide (work in progress) – A top-down shooter/strategy

 

Position: One-man game project


Game Summary: Independent game project made with Microsoft’s XNA Game Studio for the Xbox 360 and PC.  The game is a top-down view of a playing area that must be defended for a certain time from endless waves of invading zombies.  The player is given a short time to set up automated sentry guns and barricades before the zombies start to attack, and those defenses must be maintained during the attack.  Supports up to 4 players at a time on the Xbox 360.  The barricades use force and friction physics so they can be realistically pushed by both the invading zombies and the players.  The Zombies’ AI uses an  A* heuristics algorithm to find the players and sentry guns.
